United Are Bastards

I just accidentally went through the whole booking process on United’s US site. There were many seats in Economy Plus. But I couldn’t book because I don’t have a US address. So, I went through it all again on the UK site. Guess what? Economy Plus is allegedly booked solid. Bastards.

  1. Oh yes, yes they are. Wait until you have an actual ticket!

  2. That’s anti-competitive. You should complain.

  3. Yeah, those fuckers. I just canceled a flight booked with miles ($55 booking fee), had to pay $150 cancellation fee, and the $194 I paid for the Economy Plus upgrade is non-refundable. $399 to go nowhere.

  4. Don’t fly United. Their service is on par and sometimes worse than KLM.

  6. Aww, they’re only trying to get rich.
Blimey, you’ll be arguing for some kind of socialism next!

  7. I’ve been dealing with this for years. It was unbelievable how difficult it was to book a flight as a non-US resident traveling in the US. Things managed to get even worse when I *did* live in the US but had no US billing address yet. (Think new credit cards not issued yet).

The airlines and in particular the US airlines with their ‘must have US billing address on payment card to book at US site’ is completely broken in an international world.
